...MTS and AFES? Like any organization they have their problems. My friend Seumas has some ideas...

Why is there a distinction made between church and mission? The two aren't mutually exclusive.

Seumas makes an interesting argument about individualism, claiming that having to raise your own funds is too individualistic. It, to me, seems ironic considering that the lack of funds (lack of fair wage) seems to be a reaction to the selfishness in the world. (ie they're paid nothing, therefore they are selfless. Excuse my crude oversimplification.)

These are difficult arguments to make, because the selflessness and financial struggle isn't there for the purpose of giving the MTS-ee credibility, though that is what it can be seen to be doing.

Does the financial burden of MTS-ing pose an unnecessary stumbling block to casual observers, standing between them and the cross?

Nix I understand your point but due to my limited access to the internet at the moment I'm unable to reply to comments here.

Jerome and I also have a "special" relationship where he always sees it fit to disagree with things I write. Sometimes these discussions are best met in a face to face context.

Having said that I intend to blog some of my own thoughts about the matter at a later stage.
