I did finally get my awesome bed...
My new latex mattress (not much structural rigidity but very very comfortable)
The head
Close up of beautiful Australian timber
Could have had a taller head... but we were restricted by the length of the legs (which insedentally came from a chook house.)

That is one awesome bed. When do I get one?
I like it Mike. Old School. Cool. I've got a very minimalist bed (I think it's a phase I'm going through).
Mike and Christine don't even know which side of the bed is theirs yet.
what's a chook house?
Meredith, chook house is Aussie slang for a prison - chook is short for chookazalie, an old english term for convict/criminal. I believe the timber for the bed came from a mid-1800s convict-built prison at Port Arthur.
LOL Anon.
Mike, have you explained to Christine what a "chook" is? If you do, she might start calling you one.
"Chook" as in "chicken". Annon You seem to have much to say. It would be nice to have some sort of identity to put with your "helpful"comments as this would set the context and spirit in which they should be taken.
Mike, I love the two toned wood that you used. This is the bed that you built, right? It's very nice. How do you like the latex mattress? Denis and I were just pricing mattresses for our new bed and one of our options is latex.
Latex mattresses are expensive heavy (hard to move) but I'm definately glad I spent the money. I get an awesome nights rest every night.
My mattress will last for twice as long as a innerspring, never need turning, will resist dust and mildew better, won't sag and loose shape. I haven't regretted buying it for a sec.
