I barrack* for Hawthorn
22 July 2007
Ok so we lost yesterday but hey it's been a long time between drinks for my favorite footy team. But we are finally at the pointy end of the ladder. I started barracking for the Hawks back in 1985 when my school uniform was brown and yellow. I left that school soon after but stayed true to the Hawks ever since.
I should also mention that our Tasmanian state Government sponsors the Hawks too. Crazy I know but that's the Tasmanian Labor Government for you. Enuff politics. Go the Hawks.
*For the Americans "barracking" is like "rooting for". "Rooting" means something very different in Australia.

Hi Mike
Yeah, "The Tassie Hawks" name that gets thrown around is rather ludicrous.
Apparently they're ours now that we paid them $3 million to play a few games here.
I like to see Hawthorn do well, especially with Devonport boy Grant Birchall doing the biz in the backline for them. And yes, "rooting for Hawthorn" has an entirely different meaning in Australia. I'm sure there are some people out there that do it though...? I remember that episode of Frontline where the American consultant got sacked for subtitling an interview with a politician and including a line about his secretary "rooting for him".
I barrack for Collingwood and it's great to see them doing well too. Disappointing loss to Geelong last week, but we bounced back well against the hated Essendon.
Has Christine been introduced to the AFL yet?
She has my fine friend. I took some highlights over with me on my fine laptop upon my first visit to the US.
The Americans loved it. I'm hoping to try and catch a local game (Maybe Channel Saints) with Christine some time. I'm also thinking the Hawks in Launy might be a goer if they get a final there.
Ooo thanks Michael for ya comment welcome :)
You could come watch me run round like a headless chook next Saturday - I'm meant to be out at the TCA ground for Hobart v New Norfolk. Worth coming just to see the New Norfolk crowd.
GO THE SWANS!
I never knew you were a fellow Hawk fan! Yay.. we can now discuss football!! Do you go to many games? Last one I went to was Hawthorn vs Sydney at the MCG, the first time I'd witnessed Hawthorn losing :( But we're gonna be in the grand final, playing Geelong. Just you wait!
Speaking of the Tassie Hawks name, we couldn't believe it, that half the advertising at the MCG was about "discover Tasmania".. it was up on the big screen at half time and everywhere you looked there were ads for Tasmania! I kinda like that Hawthorn and Tassie have that link, cheesey and all-about-money as it is..
You guys are so going to get caned by the Kangaroos this week :) GO KANGAROO!
