Germany is... far

  • When you travel you are going fast… very fast. 160 clicks on the autobahn is slow and...
  • ...they even ride their girly hybrid bikes fast.
  • The roads are smooth.
  • The trains are faster more efficient and smoother.
  • Bikes rule over cars and pedestrians... and there are so many it's not funny.
  • The bike paths and footpaths are as wide as the roads
  • Petrol and diesel fuel is really expensive.
  • So… almost every car is a diesel.
  • and... all the cars are new.
  • and... all the cars are small.
  • Unsurprisingly nearly all the cars are European.
  • All the houses are... German looking even the new ones.

  • Most of these buildings have been round longer than any "old" building in Australia.
  • The windows and doors are amazingly engineered and double glazed.
  • There are wind farms everywhere.
  • German is an angry sounding language
  • Ich sprechen nieght deutsch.
  • Streets looks like scenes from a postcard.
  • Being the crazy Australian guy.
  • Having to read blogger and gmail in German

Germany looks fantastic mate!!
in my research so far for my trip it seems very cycling-friendy (as well as most of europe)
if you were going to get married away from home, it certainly a nice place to do it.

when's the big day? when do you return??

German stuff in Germany, weird. Take a picture of the McDonnalds menue for us. There will be a localised item I'm sure. Oneday you can go down to France and see the contrasting stuff.

So what is this wedding blogcast or whatever? Whats the deal?

Nice pic of you two!

And I love how everything is "efficient" and "amazingly engineered". ;) Confirms every stereotype we have of the Germans ;)

Glad to hear that you have arrived safe and well. Only a couple of more days to go. Praying for you both.

Trying to leave a comment is so difficult as blogger has gone all German on me.

The wedding is on Friday 29th and I'll be back on the 8th July in Australia.

Yo.. sounds exciting :) And I can't believe Germany is quite so German! Your observations were really good to read. They give an honest picture of your first impressions of Germany, better than a travel guide! And yeah, I'm so surprised too that you could confirm so many stereotypes!!

I didn't mention everyone wears lederhosen... ;)
