New Coffee joint in Hobart

I had a very nice coffee at Hobart newest cafe "Villino" in Criterion Street downtown.

Pop in and see Richard and his partner. Richard is a friend of Dave's (my brother) and a great bloke to boot. He also has a La Marzocco machine, acclaimed as one of the best coffee machines in the world.

Coffee "battle"

My brother Dave and his mate Scott “battled*" today making coffees. Dave has a Rancilio Silva and with a Rocky grinder. Scott has the cheaper but equally good Sunbeam also with matching grinder. Here are some of the pictures.

While they are still getting to know the art we are planning to have a coffee session soon and invite people. Well that's my plan anyway. I'll keep you posted.

supportMIKE is on a coffee high.

*In this context "battle" refers to something like a Hip Hop battle where the rappers try to outdo each other in mixing songs. NB. The word “battling” can also refer to an act of perseverance OR the activity of doing something. For example the act of being on MSN at 12am could be described as “Battling solidly on MSN”. I am dedicated to Josh and Feebs for this definition of battling.

Mood: Content

Today was a very restful day. I slept in, read the Bible and prayed for a while (which was good as often I struggle to do this). I finished off reading almost all Hebrews.

I spent the morning hanging with Benny. He worked on his talk for Sunday while I drank coffee, read the paper, pretended to be arty and read over some material for a kids camp I have coming up. We adjourned to the sunshine of Salamanca Market and looked at the ice sculpture (see picture). I then got another coffee from Retro and pretended to be arty some more.

Finally I went and chatted to a bunch of people who work at the market who I used to know pretty well. Before I knew it the day was almost over (winter solstice)

This evening I went down to the Mid Winter Festival and fire twirling. It was pretty cool. It was Mike’s birthday and we moved to Kaos CafĂ© where I had a little smoke and drank a nice malted white chocolate. I feel rested and content.

Pictures and sunset music...

There was a beautiful sunset this evening. I was walking home from my interview for working with FOCUS next year when I saw it. I knew I had to get a pic. The funny thing was that all the worker bee people walking home with ipods hanging out their pockets were totally oblivious to it. The top one is from my kitchen window when I got home. This second one is one that got from the Rosebay webcam located across the river.

In honour of the good coffee I had yesterday, I went and drank another great coffee from Retro Cafe and got a picture this time. I also had a brief chat with Shiloh a friend from church who is a waitress there. She also runs a particularly good blog.

Tonight I went along to see some mates playing a gig at a pub in Sandybay Anthony Rochester and the Que Experience. They were both excellent and I recommend that you check them out. A great bunch of guys. And no I don't have a picture of them.

Thankyou

I have been surprised at the number of people who have actually looked at this blog and a few have even been so kind as to leave comments.

Highlights of today were:
*Taking it easy (it was my day off).
*Meeting Mike S for lunch (Somewhere in town).
*Drinking a particularly good cappuccino (Retro Cafe).
*Shopping for shoes (But not actually buying).

Stuff for tomorrow:
*Being interviewed by Sam Green about doing MTS.
*Deciding if I should preach for an evangelistic conference for Kingston Reformed.
*Reading some Don Carson with Joel.
*Going to see a gig or two at the Dr Syntax.

Something funny you should check out:
Beaconsfield the telemovie on Crikey
