I get frustrated...

I was talking to my good friend Adam this morning about some of the frustrations I have with the current state of play in American politics. Until now I haven't really taken much notice of American politics. This year however I've been swept up in it a bit.

During this campaign what has disappointed me most, are the numbers of Americans who are seeming swept up in fear, ignorance and ad hominem arguments that leave little scope for reason and logic. The most saddening thing is that some of these people claim the name Christian. Christians should be the ones who stand out, who value truth, knowledge and rational thinking, love and kindness no matter what side of the political divide a person is from.

At this point I don't want you to get me wrong I love America. I've been there and met many wonderful people from both sides of the political divide. When I visited I came back deeply humbled. Being a Christian isn't about voting Democrat or Republican. First and foremost it's about the gospel, the good news to a hurting and sinful world that only Jesus can fix.

I completely agree. Both sides have spewed that much filth towards the other, it's embarrassing. It makes me glad our political system hasn't reached those depths yet.

Blogs like Daniel J Phillips' leave me worried about the state of evangelical Christianity in America. The amount of hate coming out of that blog is astounding.

At least you aren't surrounded by it. *sigh* it gets worse when "christians" are blatantly promoting LIES because of their ignorance/despising of the rational life. yes, america is insanely ignorant.

Simply: life, love & truth. All 3 are required, all 3 are sourced in Jesus, and all 3 take GREAT responsibility from us to keep to the 3 which overpower the world's death, pride & lies.
That's 1-John christianity, but that's hardly what's filling up the ami churches. (further blog coming.. eventually)

Geez I'm glad someone else is worried about Dan Phillips.

A post about Christ can be sublime and well researched.

Then a following post about Barack Obama is badly researched, rude, and merely repeats rumours.

I once tried to discuss politics and economics with Dan. I tried to point out to him that "big government" (ie higher taxes, welfare system, universal health care etc) is not unbiblical at all and that Christians who are convinced that it can work are not being ungodly.

He pretty much called me a pinko communist and questioned my understanding of the Bible.
