More drum beating... why pray for 2?

I've been beating the drum for more prayer at FOCUS. But why? I read this extract , this morning...

If we are really convinced that prayer changes the way God acts, and that God does bring about remarkable changes in the world in response to prayer, as scripture repeatedly teaches that he does, then we would pray much more than we do. If we pray little it is probably because we do not really believe that prayer accomplishes much at all.
I'm especially keen about getting us praying for our unsaved friends. I'll say it again I want us all praying for two non Christian friends regularly. Please Pray for 2.

how do you think the idea that "prayer changes the way God acts" relates to the sovereignty of God?

God foreordains that we will pray prayers that will make him change his actions according to his foreordained Master Plan.

Amen to what Mikey said. The writer of the aforementioned quote would agree also.

i'm praying for 3. hope that doesn't get me in trouble...

i'd encourage people to also pray for the other christians that may be surrounding your 'chosen' friends.

ok, my next question is this. If God says He is going to do one thing, we pray that He would do another, and then God changes His mind because He had preordained that He would do that... that seems to make God a liar... If He never intended to do something, He should never have said it.

Mike slightly OT but do you or anyone else know of a leaflet/booklet that we can have as a freebie on our stall that will catch attention & somehow appeal to the hypothetical average Aussie?

At Christmas we have Kel Richard's C/mas Wordwatch to give away & it is popular but we need something for rest of the year.

Chris: I take it that there are at least two types of declaration God can make:
1. Declarations of his eternal will. This will not be changed by prayer
2. Declarations of his relational/conditional will. This second kind is the one that prayer can chaange.
Check out Ezek 18. It tells us that when God is speaking of his relational will, there is always an implicit 'if'.

Mikey thats the clearest explanation I've seen. Thanks.

We just finished Nehemiah in ladies group & I was impressed by his close relationship to God that he could turn to him in prayer constantly, & plead on that basis.
