After extensive research on the definition of a "chav" I found those hilarious. We have those in America too, but we call them "whiggas." See Kevin Federline for a perfect example.

Furthermore, according to an online quiz, I am 21% chav.

Bogan ... Chav ... White Trash ... it's all the same

In Tassie we have an even more local version - chiggas (or chiggers) . They come from a suburb called Chigwell, which is pretty bogan. However they are different from bogans in that true bogans are usually tougher. Chiggas often have higher voices and are more likely to swear at you from afar.

I love the chav jokes! And yes, K-Fed is the equivalent. He and Britney got married in tracksuits.

That's really cool that Christine's coming to Australia! Congrats Christine (and Mike of course!). There's no logical spot to post this on your blog, Mike, but need to tell you that my 2 year old son was pretending to be YOU this week! How does it feel to have a toddler fanclub? :-)

There is actually a place in Essex called Chigwell too Angus - hmmmmmm

Anonymous said... 9/22/2006 12:18 pm

Maybe our chiggas are descended from convicts originally sent from Chigwell in Essex! Quite possible. ;)

I think that might be very possible Angus :)

"Chav" is a Roma (gypsy) word meaning young man. As your local online etymologist and poshrat, I hereby declare

Mike
Angus (gday!)
and Nixter
to be chav

:P

calico rabbit = what happens when euro trash breed and immigrate
mwaaaaaaaaaahahahahaha

I will have to write a do and donot list for Christine when coming to meet Hobart royalty. There will be photographers at the airport, and girls will wonder what she will be wearing I guess.

calico - Chav = Coucil Housed And Violent is what CHAV stands for. Are you sure that Mike, Angus and I are still chavs????

;)

Anonymous said... 9/27/2006 3:49 am

The wikipedia article I read to find out what a chav is says that "Council Housed and Violent" is one of several backronyms, but that the origin is uncertain.

you'll know me by the large dark sunglasses, hair in a ponytail, black leather jacket over my head being escorted to the motorcade
